(Washington, DC)  --  The Senate has approved a more than 26-billion-dollar jobs bill, sending the measure to the House for final passage.  With a new school year fast approaching, the legislation is aimed at helping needy states prevent layoffs of teachers and other public employees.

The House is in recess all this month, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi will bring members back for one day next week to approve the final bill.  President Obama is expected to sign it shortly thereafter.  Democrats view it as a crucial election-year jobs bill.  Republicans argue that it will add to the soaring federal deficit.
