(Washington, DC)  --  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is urging the Senate to get moving on the new nuclear reduction deal with Russia.  The START is stalled as supporters try to round up the 67-votes needed for approval in the 100-member Senate.

Speaking at the State Department, Clinton said START should not be stalled because of "election year politics."  Senate Republicans are seeking assurances from President Obama that the current U.S. nuclear arsenal will be upgraded.  Secretary Clinton cited a long precedent of overwhelming, bipartisan Senate support for nuclear reduction treaties.
