A Schuyler County man will be inducted into the New York State Senate Veteran's Hall of Fame tomorrow at the State Capitol. Steve Smith is one of just fifty veterans from across the state to receive the honor. He is a decorated Korean War veteran who currently serves as the director of the Schuyler County Veteran's Service Agency. He served in North Korea in 1953, where he took part in one of the war's most famous battles -- the defense of Outpost Harry in an 8-day siege against the Chinese -- earning a Silver Star for his efforts.

After the war, he came home to Schyler County and ran his family's grocery store for 38 years. He also served on the county legislature for 23 years, seven of those as chairman. The Veteran's Hall of Fame has an online gallery that you can take a peek at here.
