Natural Balance Pet Foods has launched a voluntary recall of its five pound and 28 pound bags of Sweet Potato & Chicken dry dog food. The company was co-founded by actor Dick Van Patten, best known for his role as the father on the TV show "Eight is Enough." Company President Joey Herrick said in a statement that a random sample of the food by the FDA tested positive for salmonella. Herrick said he launched further testing which came back negative, but followed the recommendation of the FDA to issue the recall in 26 states. The recalled food has a "best by" date of June 17, 2011 and was manufactured on December 17 of last year.
