Rochester Philly Pittsburgh All Contacted About Possible 2024 Olympic Bid
02.21.13 |
The city of Rochester, New York is being considered to host the 2024 Olympic Games. Rochester was featured in the New York Times this week, after the Olympic Committee sent letters to the mayors of 35 American cities to guage their interest in making a bid for the games. They range in size from New York City, population 8 million, to Rochester, population 210 thousand. The requirements are steep: you have to have 45-thousand hotel rooms available, have to construct and Olympic Village to house 16 thousand athletes, and operations space for 15-thousand news media, a public transportation system with a work force of 200-thousand, and a 3-billion-dollar operating budget. There's no word if Rochester is interested. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh were also contacted.
