(Chicago, IL)  --  Planned job cuts in August were reportedly at the lowest monthly level in more than a decade.  New numbers from outplacement consultant Challenger, Gray & Christmas reveal planned job reductions declined 17-percent from the cuts announced in July.  It's the first downward tick after three consecutive months of plans for increased job cuts.  August is also the lowest month for job reductions since June of 2000.

Employers told Challenger they planned to cut close to 35-thousand positions in August.  More than 41-thousand job cuts were announced in July.  The consultancy's CEO John Challenger said, "the layoff picture has improved so significantly that we are at pre-dot.com-collapse levels when it comes to monthly job-cut announcements."
