Rendell Outspoken Against Assault Weapons

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell appears determined to press for a federal ban on assault weapons. Rendell spoke Sunday on the CBS program "Face the Nation," saying there is no rational reason to allow the sale of the weapons.

The governor has increased his efforts since the recent slayings of three Pittsburgh police officers by a man armed with an assault rifle. However, the Obama administration does not seem ready to make an assault-weapons ban a priority.

Hundreds of Pennsylvania gun owners are expected in Harrisburg on Tuesday for the annual right-to-bear-arms rally.
