(Washington, DC)  --  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid plans a vote on a bill that includes language to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy on gays and lesbians in the military.  A senior Democratic leadership aide tells the "Washington Blade" Reid informed Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that the defense authorization bill, including the repeal language, would come to the Senate floor for a vote sometimes next week.

According to the aide, the Senate won't have unanimous consent to bring the bill to the floor, so at least 60 votes will be necessary to end a filibuster and begin debate on the measure.  Homosexual rights leaders are mounting a campaign, urging senators to vote in favor of the authorization bill.
