Red River Valley Waiting For River To Fall

People in the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota are hoping for continued good news following a weekend that saw the river crest lower than dire predictions had indicated.

Fargo City Commissioner Brad Wimmer says the community remains on high alert as volunteers and city workers watch levees for signs of failure. Flooding damaged a high school in Fargo on Sunday when a dike breach sent water onto the campus.

The Red River crested at 40-point-eight feet on Saturday, below initial predictions that ran as high as 43 feet. The river is expected to remain very high for at least a few more days. Forecasters say a winter storm could also drop heavy snow on the region today and tomorrow.
