A record number of Pennsylvania families are getting help with paying their home heating bills this winter. Welfare department officials say more families are benefiting from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, thanks to an increase in federal funding and higher income eligibility limits.

Over three hundred thirty thousand families have received LIHEAP cash grants since the state began accepting applications November 3rd. That is an increase of more than sixty percent compared to the same period a year ago.
