If 2011 has a mascot, it may be a mop and bucket. Fall officially started at 5:04 this morning, and yet the year has already shattered records for rain. As of Wednesday, 2011 has seen 52.7 inches of precipitation, breaking the old record of 49.78 inches set in 2006. Average precipitation for the rest of the year is 10 inches, which means 2011 will exceed former precipitation records by far, according to the National Weather Service. The Southern Tier had the wettest spring on record, and the summer ranked 8th since records began.
