Primary elections or runoffs are being held today in Mississippi, South Carolina, Utah and North Carolina. In a high-profile runoff election, Republicans in South Carolina will choose their nominee for governor. State Representative Nikki Haley and U.S. Representative Gresham Barrett are running against each other. Haley garnered 50 percent of the vote two weeks ago in the primary. In the state's 1st Congressional district, a GOP runoff will be held between state Representative Tim Scott, the state's legislature's only black GOP lawmaker, and Paul Thurmond, the son of long-time U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond. In another congressional runoff race in South Carolina, GOP incumbent Bob Inglis faces a challenge from Spartanburg County Solicitor Trey Gowdy.

In Utah, Democratic incumbent Representative Jim Matheson faces Claudia Wright, who picked up 45 percent of the vote at the state nominating convention in May. Utah's other two members of Congress are both Republicans and are running unopposed. Bill Marcy and Richard Cook will face off in a Republican runoff in Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District. Meanwhile, North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall is going up against former state Senator Cal Cunningham in a runoff for the state's Democratic Senate nomination. The winner will face Republican incumbent Senator Richard Burr in November.
