President Obama To Support Repeal Of The Defense Of Marriage Act
07.20.11 |
President Obama said Tuesday that he will support repealing the Defense Of Marriage Act -- the national bill that protects traditional marriage. The President has alreayd said he won't defend the act, because he believes it is unconstitutional to define marriage as between one man and one woman. But Obama's press secretary went even further, saying the President is "proud" to support the "Respect for Marriage Act" put forth by Senator Diane Feinstein, which would recognize gay marriage as legal, nationally. Feinstein is heading hearings in the Senate this week to try and overturn DOMA. She said Tuesday, she doesn't believe it will happen this time around, with so many Republicans in Congress, but she will "continue until the battle is won."
