President Obama Signs Equal Pay Bill

President Obama has signed his first piece of legislation, an equal pay bill. Obama attached his signature to the Lilly Ledbetter Bill, designed to make it easier for workers to sue over pay discrimination.

In a White House signing ceremony, the President said women still earn 78-cents to every dollar that men make.  He noted that women of color make even less.

Lilly Ledbetter is an elderly woman who worked for Goodyear Tire in Alabama for many years.  She was involved in lengthy litigation over her claim that she was paid less than male workers who performed the same job.

While running for President, Obama often cited Ledbetter's cause.  She also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August.
