President Obama Promotes Community Colleges
10.05.10 |
(Washington, DC) -- President Obama is promoting community colleges, calling them the unsung heroes of the U.S. education system. Opening the first-ever White House Summit on Community Colleges, the President said such institutions offer a pathway to good jobs and a better way of life. This week, Obama unveiled a new partnership with corporations aimed at boosting job training programs at community colleges.
Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, helped put the summit together. Dr. Biden, a lifelong educator, is an English professor at a community college in northern Virginia. She called community colleges one of America's best-kept secrets. Biden said community colleges offer "real opportunity to students who, otherwise, wouldn't have it."
