(Vatican City)  --  Pope Benedict the 16th is in Scotland today.  Thousands of people turned out to see the Pontiff arrive for his historic four-day trip.  The visit began this morning with a royal welcome from Queen Elizabeth the Second and a parade in Edinburgh.  The Pontiff removed his white cap as a military band played the national anthem God Save the Queen.

In a speech at the Palace of Holyrood in Edinburgh, Pope Benidict thanked the queen for inviting him to the United Kingdom and sought to move past deeply rooted religious tensions between the British and the Catholic church.  He praised the accomplishments of Christians of all denominations and warned against, "more aggressive forms of secularism" that don't respect traditional values.
