In her first outing in the polls, most New Yorkers generally approve of the little-known Upstate New York Representative. A Quinnipiac University survey finds 46-to 30-percent hold a positive view of Gillibrand.

The poll shows New York's incoming junior Senator receives strong backing in Upstate New York with 55-percent, but support falls in the suburbs to 35-percent. But a majority of the state's residents, 63-percent, say they don't know enough about her.

Gillibrand will be sworn-in later today. Vice President Joe Biden will administer the oath of office in a ceremony at noon, Eastern time, from the U.S. Capitol. Governor David Paterson will be notably absent from Tuesday's ceremony.
