Philadelphia Students To Receive Free Lunches

08.21.14 |

Starting this school year, all city schools students, regardless of family income, will receive free lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs. Students already were receiving free breakfasts. The program is new to Pennsylvania-- but has been in the pilot stage in 10 states since 2010. To be eligible, 40 percent of the school's kids must get public aid or be in foster homes-- then the entire school-- is eligible for free lunch. If it goes over well, it may expand across the Keystone State.
