Perfect Attendence
05.27.09 |
Cal Ripken may be the Ironman of baseball, but Stephanie Zaner is the Ironkid of compulsary education. The 18 year-old Darnestown, Maryland native is closing in on her 2,340th consecutive day in school.
Zaner will achieve a record 13 years of perfect attendence on Friday when she arrives at Northwest High School for the final day of her high school career. Not once in 13 years was she absent. As best we know, it has only happened once before.
What makes Zaner's feat all the more spectacular is that twice during those 13 years her family moved and 3 times she changed schools. Zaner tells the Washington Post her family had a strict no-television policy at home and that is what helped keep her motivated in school.
