The elderly state list states Pennsylvania has been ranked the third oldest state, with a senior population at about 15-percent, according to the Census Bureau. The state of Florida has the distinction of being the oldest state, population wise, in the nation. Seventeen-percent of Sunshine State residents are age 65 or older.

The number two state in the geriatric derby may come as a surprise to many. It is West Virginia with about 15-percent of the population at retirement age. The population figures were released by the government agency last week.
