Peace Talks Between Israel And Palestine Continue In Jerusalem
09.15.10 |
(Jerusalem) -- A second day of U.S.-brokered talks is taking place today in Jerusalem between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Yesterday in Egypt, the pair failed to find common ground on the issue of settlements in the occupied West Bank. A moratorium on new housing construction is set to expire on September 30th, and Palestinians have vowed to bow out of the talks unless an agreement can be reached.
Nevertheless, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remains upbeat, saying the two leaders are, quote, "getting down to business" and have begun to discuss "core issues that can only be resolved through face to face negotiations." Washington Middle East envoy George Mitchell is also on hand for the talks.
