Evangelical Christian leaders are critisizing Pat Roberton for saying that a spouse with Alzheimer's disease is "essentially dead" and divorcing him or her might be justifiable. The controversial comments were made on Tuesday's taping of the 700 Club. Robertson was responding to a question about a man who was cheating on his wife who has Alzheimer's. The Christian Broadcasting Network CEO says he believes marriage means "until death do us part." But, he added that Alzheimer's "is a kind of death." Alzheimer's disease causes memory loss and problems with language and judgment.
