Pastor Behind The Cross And The Switchblade Dies
04.28.11 |
A warrior of the Christian faith passed away in fatal car accident yesterday. Reverend David Wilkerson is the founding pastor of the Times Square Church in New York City: 8-thousand members strong. He had a heart for troubled teenagers, and wrote the book "The Cross and the Switchblade", talking about reaching out to gang members and drug addicts in New York. Wilkerson was driving on U.S. 175 in Texas with his wife Wednesday, when he crossed lanes and was hit head-on by a semi truck. His wife is in critical condition. Eerily, he wrote these words in a blog hours before his death: quote, ""to those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, "I am with you. God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his word. There is no other hope in this world."
