Pa Senator Rick Santorum Says The Civil Rights Fight And Abortion Fight Are The Same
01.21.11 |
Potential 2012 Republican presidential contender and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is going after President Obama for his pro-choice stance. The anti-abortion activist told CNS news earlier this week that Obama says the fetus is "not a person under the constitution," and that he finds it, "Remarkable for a black man to say, 'Now we are going to decide who are people and who are not people.'" Santorum expanded on his statement yesterday, saying he is,"disappointed that President Obama, who rightfully fights for civil rights, refuses to recognize the civil rights of the unborn in this country." He said his remarks had actually had little very little to do with race. He also said: "I would agree with you that when I use the word 'black', all of a sudden it gives people a reason to say, "Oh! he's trying to make some sort of racial comment!' I was not. I was trying to talk about a historical fact about how the Constitution was interpreted and how it is interpreted today." The White House declined to comment on Santorum's criticism.
