Pa Resident Watch Out For Rebate Scams

10.07.10 | Terry Diener

Pennsylvania residents eligible to file property tax or rent rebate forms are being warned about a scam. Homeowners across the state are getting unsolicited mailings that ask senior citizens or disabled residents to pay a fee in order to receive assistance in filing a property tax or rent rebate claim.

State officials say those letters don’t tell you that people can apply for rebates directly with the Commonwealth, for free, or that forms and assistance are readily available. This is the second time this year that consumers have reported receiving questionable notifications about the state's property tax and rent rebate program.
