Pa Lawmaker Pushes For Open Primaries

As voters cast ballots on primary day in Pennsylvania, one state lawmaker thinks its time to let independents take part in the nominating contests. Today's primary features many hot races across the Commonwealth, but over 1 million voters will have no say in who wins. That's because Pennsylvania is among a dozen states that have closed primaries, in which only registered Democrats and Republicans get to take part, not Independent voters. Democratic Senator Rob Teplitz is sponsoring a bill to change that. He says Independents should not be penalized for having an open mind about politics.
