On Thursday, Governor Ed Rendell held a ceremonial signing of legislation that ensures health care workers are not overworked. Under the new law, a health care facility cannot, except in specific circumstances, force health care workers to work longer than they are scheduled. Rendell the bill will increase patient safety, encourage future nurses, and help reduce medical errors.

Research from the "Institute of Medicine" confirms that long work hours and overtime contribute to medical errors. The Institute also reports between 44,000 and 98,000 hospital deaths every year are due to medical errors.
