Omara Supports Casino Expansion

New York State Senator Tom O’Mara is pushing for the referendum to expand casino gambling in New York State. Voters will decide the fate of Proposition 1 on election Day November 5th. O’Mara says approving the referendum will be a boost to the state’s economy, both in terms of revenue and jobs created, and that the casinos will help lower property taxes in Upstate New York. A poll from Siena College last week showed a majority of New Yorkers supporting the amendment to expand casino gambling. The amendment to the state constitution would allow non-Native American owned, Las Vegas-style casinos in New York State. Critics say if approved...these casinos will destroy locally-owned businesses, and contribute to an increase in crime and prostitution.
