(Washington, DC)  --  President Obama is touting his proposal to spend about 50-billion dollars to repair and modernize U.S. highways, railways and airports.  After a White House meeting with several governors and mayors, the President said the plan will create middle-class jobs and should prompt broad bipartisan support.

Mr. Obama insisted that the nation's infrastructure is crumbling and is urgently in need of repair and modernization.  He said the U.S. is falling behind other nations on infrastructure, including Russia and China.  The sluggish economic recovery continues to be a drag on Democrats as they try to hang onto control of Congress in next month's crucial midterm elections.
