Obama Expected To Offer Aid To Gaza

President Obama will host Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the White House on Wednesday. During the meeting, Obama is expected to offer fresh U.S. aid for the Gaza Strip, which has been under an Israeli blockade since Hamas ousted Abbas' ruling Fatah party in 2007. The President will likely assure Abbas that he plans to pressure Israel to allow more humanitarian supplies into the impoverished Palestinian enclave. A senior administration official said Obama would also urge Abbas not to abandon indirect peace talks with Israel following an Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla. Abbas has called the May 31st raid that resulted in the deaths of nine pro-Palestinian activists a "massacre."
