Nys Fingerlakes Trail Turns 50

The Fingerlakes Trail will have a milestone birthday this week. Called one of the area's best kept secrets, the Finger Lakes Trail is a 558-mile path that meanders through the heart of upstate New York with panoramic views, deep gorges and waterfalls, cool forests and open fields. A 1,400-member volunteer organization keeps it groomed and maintained. The Trail celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and June 2, to celebrate National Trails Day, the Finger Lakes Trail Conference is organizing a hike that will cover the entire main trail in one day. The feat will be accomplished by hiking 75 different sections of the trail in simultaneous treks of 5 to 10 miles each.
