Nys Fair Gets Underway Today

08.22.13 | Bob Price

Gates open at 8 a.m. on opening day of the Great New York State Fair.  This year's world famous butter sculpture will be unveiled at 10am. This year's creation mixes New York icons like Niagara Falls and the Statue of Liberty with the sculpture theme "getting fresh with local dairy." The buttered Lady Liberty is a cow holding an ice cream torch and a wheel of cheese, surrounded by children enjoying dairy products like milk and yogurt in winter, summer, spring and fall.  It's also Governor's Day at the fair, but since Andrew Cuomo is in Buffalo meeting President Obama,  Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy, the former Mayor of Rochester, will host the fair's opening day.
