Ny Teachers Unions Want Testing Ban For Youngsters

New York State Teachers' unions are calling for a ban on standardized tests for students in pre-k through second grade. The angst comes as testing becomes more commonplace under the common core learning standards.  Now, the unions have started a petition drive to mandate the State Legislature  prohibit standardized testing for pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade. Education Commissioner John King supports the drive to ban early elementary school testing.  The Senate and Assembly may take up more common core reform efforts when they reconvene in January.
