(Albany, NY) -- Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has ordered four area retailers to stop selling toy guns.  About 100 companies received cease-and-desist letters, ordering them to stop selling the guns, which violate state and federal laws.  Four of those companies, Big Lots, Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Gander Mountain all have several locations throughout Western New York.

Federal law prohibits the sale of imitation firearms that don't carry a blaze-orange-colored plug in the barrel.  Also, New York state law restricts the sale of any imitation gun made of plastic, metal or wood unless it is a color other than aluminum, black, blue or silver.  The order follows the arrest of two men last week in Saranac Lake for attempted armed robbery, where they allegedly used toy guns to hold up and attack a man in a parking lot.
