Ny Senate To Shift To Democratic Control

06.26.14 | Sarah Harnisch

The New York Senate has been operating under Republican control since a team of 5 Democrats began voting with Republicans. That's about to change, after Governor Cuomo announced he will fight for the state Senate. The governor issued an ultimatum yesterday, warning any Democrat in the Senate that votes with Republicans. Just hours after his radio address, the entire senate faction agreed to partner with Democrats after the fall election-- a move that could pave the way for a totally Democratic controlled legislature and governor's office. It means Republicans face greater pressure to capture 32 seats, the number needed to rule the Senate.
