Ny Safe Act Opt Out Form Deadline Is Wednesday

New York's pistol permit holders face a deadline tomorrow to submit their opt-out forms. Those are the forms that keep your records confidential. Individuals can submit an opt-out form after the May 15th deadline, but their records will not be sealed under Freedom of Information requests until a county judge approves them. Anything sent in now is instantly sealed. The option to keep pistol permit records private is a provision of the state’s Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, the SAFE Act, which also includes the expansion of an assault-weapons ban, limits the number of bullets in a magazine to seven and requires registration of guns every five years.
