The New York state prison system is coming under fire for not informing victims or prosecutors when it places a convict into an early release program. Some convicts can be enrolled in a military-style boot camp program that allows them to be paroled after just 6 months. The State Department of Corrections says they are not obligated to notify victims or the District Attorney of a decision to place an inmate into shock incarceration. But it should be handled during the plea or sentencing. District Attorneys across the state say the program could put people at risk and the policy needs to change.
