Former New York governor David Paterson's father has passed away. Democrat Basil Paterson was a political powerhouse and served as a state senator, deputy New York city mayor and New York's first black Secretary of State. He was part of the "Gang of Four" that included New York City's first black mayor-- David Dinkins-- And U.S. Representative Charlie Rangel. They built a power base that made Harlem a launching pad for black leadership, and opened doors for African American businesses.  The 87 year old died Wednesday night at Mount Sinai hospital-- Just  6 minutes away from Harlem.
