North Korea Issues Threat Over Ussouth Korea Exercise

(Pyongyang)  --  North Korea is promising what it calls a "merciless counterblow" in response to U.S. plans for joint exercises with South Korea.  The U.S. and South Korea say the joint exercises are meant to be a warning to North Korea.  They come after the sinking of a South Korean navy ship that's blamed on a North Korean attack.  A North Korean general said his country's reaction will be, "the severest punishment no one has ever met in the world."

North Korea isn't the only country bristling at the joint exercises.  China isn't happy about it either, considering that it could involve a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Yellow Sea.  Last month, it condemned a joint naval drill held by the U.S. and South Korea and responded with its own military exercises.
