No Horse Slaughtering In Pa

Recent Federal Legislation that could open the door for horse slaughter operations in the U.S. is unlikely to have any impact on Pennsylvania, according to several in the horse industry. Ann Swinker, an associate professor of equine science at Penn State, said she has not heard of any proposals to build a slaughterhouse in the Keystone State. Some have suggested that Pennsylvania would be a good location for a slaughterhouse because the new Holland Auction in Lancaster County has the largest horse auction east of the Mississippi, with about 250 horses being sold weekly. Many of them end up going to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico.
