New Yorks Abortion Bill Nears Completion

05.02.13 |

Governor Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday the bill is nearly done-- but does not have enough support yet to overcome Republican opposition in the Senate. He said special attention is being paid to the wording, hoping changing the language will sway people like GOP Senate Leader Dean Skelos. The governor says it simply codifies Roe Versus Wade, makes it legal, in case it's overturned. Skelos says it expands abortion coverage in new york-- and will offer things like third term abortion. There are technically more democrats then republicans in the state senate, but at least two democrats oppose abortion-- so Cuomo needs the Republican vote to get it passed.
