New York State Launches Sex Offender Text Alerts

NEW YORK STATE IS NOW OFFERING TEXT ALERTS ON YOUR CELL PHONE WHEN MODERATE AND HIGH-RISK SEX OFFENDERS MOVE INTO OR OUT OF YOUR COMMUNITY. THE SAME GROUP LAUNCHING THIS RUNS THE STATE'S NY-ALERT PROGRAM -- WHICH TELLS YOU OF ROAD CLOSURES, WEATHER WARNINGS, PUBLIC HEALTH WARNINGS, AND AMBER ALERTS FOR MISSING KIDS.

A NEW LAW THAT WENT INTO EFFECT MONDAY REQUIRED THEY ALSO PROVIDE ALERTS ON SEX OFFENDERS. THERE ARE MORE THAN 30-THOUSAND REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS IN NEW YORK -- AND LAST YEAR, THEY MOVED 33 THOUSAND TIMES. YOU HAVE TO ENROLL TO GET THE ALERTS.
