New York Senate Stalemate Continues

The gridlock in the State Senate continues. Democrats and the Republican coalition that includes renegade Democrat Pedro Espada Jr. met privately Thursday. But Democrats left the meeting with no agreement reached on sharing power or moving the session forward.

Democrats demand the removal of Espada as temporary president of the Senate. Espada continues to stake a claim to the title after last Monday's coup.

With no Lieutenant Governor, the temporary Senate president is next in line to the governorship. Democrats seek a temporary restraining order from a judge to prevent that scenario from occurring should something happen to David Paterson. Democrats and Republicans remain deadlocked at 31 members for each conference.
