New York State has been ranked among the best public schools in the nation. For the third consecutive year, "Education Week" has ranked Maryland's public education system as number 1 in the nation-- but New York is not far behind them, sitting in second place in the whole country. Maryland schools have received an overall grade of B-plus from the news outlet-- which measured student achievement, school finance and education policies.  New York was tied with Massachusetts with a score of "B." Schools in the District of Columbia ranked near the bottom of the list with a grade of D-plus, coming in just ahead of last-place Nebraska. Pennsylvania scored in the middle.
