New Webster Police Officer Hailed As Hero

A Webster, New York police officer is being credited for "preventing further loss of life" in the Christmas Eve ambush on firefighters. The Webster police chief says officer Mark Reed arrived on scene almost immediately after the first 911 call. He says reed's quick response "directly impacted" the actions of the gunman William Spengler after reed fired a total of six rounds at the shooter. Police say Spengler used nearly 60 rounds during the attack. He was later found dead on the beach after committing suicide with 400 rounds of ammunition near him. Two firefighters were killed and two others wounded in the Christmas Eve shooting.
