Today's Martin Luther King Day celebration includes a new traveling exhibit at the National Civil Rights Museum. "Soul Soldiers" opens today in observance of King, who was an outspoken critic of the Vietnam war and the role black soldiers played in it. The exhibit comes to Memphis after stops in museums in Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Richmond and Birmingham. Samuel L. Black, the curator of the African American Collection at the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, assembled the exhibit in 2006.
