New Budget Beefs Up Food Safety

The new federal budget calls for a billion dollars to boost food safety. The Food and Drug Administration will beef up enforcement after tainted peanut butter from a single processing plant led to the largest product recall in U.S. history.

The spending plan also calls for six-billion dollars for cancer research.  A new program for new moms sends a nurse home to check on mother and baby. In all, the Health and Human Services Department will get a little less than 77-billion dollars to spend, a chunk of which will go toward computerizing all medical records.
