(New Orleans, LA)  --  More skimmers are being brought in as BP works to install a new type of containment cap on that broken well pipe in the Gulf of Mexico.  National Incident Commander Thad Allen said efforts to capture the additional oil now flowing from the site involve an unprecedented number of skimmers.

Allen said they need close to one-thousand skimmers to take advantange of all of the vessels that are now available to assist with collection efforts in the Gulf.  A large ship called the Helix Producer arrived on site over the weekend which is capable of collecting up to 25-thousand barrels of oil per day.  BP expects it to become operational later today.

Officials say 25-thousand barrels of oily water were collected yesterday by the skimmers.
