Missouri And Ohio Introduce New Abortion Laws

07.15.11 | Sarah Harnisch

Yesterday, Missouri voted to toughen their abortion rules. Doctors and hospitals will now be penalized for any abortion done when a woman's life is not at risk, or when the pregnancy poses a serious risk of physical impairment. There was such a fight over the law; the democratic governor allowed it to go into effect without his signature.

Meanwhile, a bill banning abortions on any unborn baby that could survive outside the womb has cleared the Ohio senate. The measure prohibits an abortion after 20 weeks, if the doctor finds the baby viable. The law states that even in cases of rape or incest, an abortion is not permissible.
