Mifflinburg Pennsylvania Spruce Tree Heading To The Rockefeller Center

11.09.11 | Sarah Harnisch

Pennsylvania is sending a Christmas tree to Rockefeller Center.  It's the first time a Christmas tree has been chosen from the state.  The 74-foot 10-ton spruce was cut down around nine o'clock, eastern time, in Mifflinville this morning. Mifflinville is a tiny town of 25-hundred in the Berwick/Danville/Hazleton area.  The mayor there said it was a great honor to the town, and hoped it would cause more people to stop by. The tree will be placed on a flatbed for the 170-mile ride into Manhattan. The tree is scheduled to arrive in Manhattan on Friday and will be put up in the plaza overlooking the ice rink. The lighting ceremony is scheduled for November 30th.
